6 days desert tour from Marrakech, Details

Day 1: Marrakech – Ouzoud Waterfalls – Azilal – Ait Bougumez Valley

On the first day of our desert tour from Marrakech, we will take the High Atlas road by off-road vehicle and drive to the Ait Bougumez valley, also known as the Valley of Happiness and the Valley of Relaxation.  After crossing the Plain of Elhaouz, visit the famous Ouzoud waterfall (110 m high). This is one of the typical natural attractions of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. Above the Ouzoud waterfalls are several small ancient mills still operating today. In Ouzoud waterfalls, you can see the Barbarian monkeys. Passing through the Aghbar Pass (2300 m), you will admire stunning views of Morocco’s second-highest peak, Mougoun (4168 m). In the late afternoon, you will reach the village of Agouti in the Ait Bougmez valley.

Day 2: Ait Bougumez Valley – Zawyat Ahnsal – Cathedral Rock – Anragoui

The main spot of the day is ‘Jurassic Day’, visiting the site where many dinosaur tracks and fossils have been found; follow through Jebel Azurki road and cross Tizi N’Isli and continue via the beautiful forest. Pass the village of Zawiya Ahansal and follow the meandering Oud River to the Cathedral, an ideal bivouac/ hotel at the foot of Morocco’s highest cliffs, before reaching Anergoui.

Day 3: Anargoui – Tislite Lake – Imilchil village

Depart through the Asif Merl (White River). You will leave this unique rocky region behind and discover the breathtaking world of the High Atlas: after several passes above 2,000 m, you will reach the high pastures of Zaimouzen (Khaimas village); visit the town of Tizi N’Isli and descend to the high ground of the lake, which the locals call Tislit, Isli; then continue on to the lake of Tislit, which the locals call Tislit, Isli. According to legend, Isli (the groom) loved Tislit (the bride) very much, but both families were against marriage. As a result, two lakes were created, which still retain their names. This legend is of great importance to the Berber highlanders, Ait Hdidu and Ait Brahim.

Day 4: Imilchil – Lake Tislit – Lake Isli – Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge – Boumalene Dades

History and legends will transport you to a spectacular world of color as you journey through the two lakes of Isri and Tislit. Have a short stroll along the Asif Merul (White River) gorge and along the lakeside, where you will explore the Ait Hadiddu, Ait Iaza and Ait Brahim towns. After crossing the Tigrudin Pass, you will arrive at Todra Valley with its beautiful palm groves. A short walk through the palm groves takes you to the Dades valley. Overnight in Boumalen Dades.

Day 5: Dades Gorge – Rose Valley – Skoura

After breakfast, visit the Dades Gorge and travel along the ‘Road of a Thousand Kasbahs’ to the Rose Valley, where you will discover several kasbahs and Berber villages. Visit a magnificent kasbah in the palm forests of Skoura. Dinner and overnight in Skoura.

Day 6: Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouit – Marrakech

After breakfast, depart for Ouarzazate. Film buffs can arrange a visit to the Atlas Film Studios followed by a short tour of the Kasbah Taourirt, with its traditional architecture of beautifully decorated rooms, winding corridors, and beautiful towers.

The village is very famous as a filming location for movies such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Gladiator, Seven Days in Thebes, Babel, and Alexander. We leave the village, following in the footsteps of the ancient caravans that made their way from West Africa to Marrakech.
