Overview

This tour from Tangier of 8 days will take you on an enjoyable experience in Morocco. You will travel from Tangier to Marrakech, but you will first go to discover the famous blue city ‘Of Chefchaoune’ and the city of Fez. Then, via the Atlas Mountains road, you will cross over the largest forest in North Africa, the Cedar forest in Azrou. Also, you will spend one night in the golden desert of Merzouga and visit the Hollywood of Africa ‘Ouarzazate’. You will explore the fortified Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou before your tour end in the red city of Marrakech.

Day 1: Arrival Day – First day of the tour from Tangier

First day of your tour from Tangier. Arrive in Tangier, where you will be met by our team, and head to your hotel for the overnight. 

 

Day 2: Visit Tangier

On the second day of your tour from Tangier, you will discover this beautiful city with its European style after having a traditional Moroccan breakfast at 8 am. Your local guide will welcome you to the reception and show you the must-see sights and attractions of the city. You will also have the opportunity to know Tangier’s history, known as the ‘Pearl of the North. Tangier is a white city on a hill overlooking Europe and Africa, the Atlantic, and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a city of diverse exchanges, multicultural, Africa’s first port, a gateway to an exotic world for generations of artists and writers looking for inspiration.

Around the evening, you will return to your hotel and relax for the next day.

 

Day 3: Tangier to Chefchaouen

It’s wonderful to program a visit to the impressive Blue city on this tour from Tangier. That day is special because you will visit Chefchaouen, one of the most popular places in northern Morocco. Chefchaouen is located in the basin of the two mountains that gave it its name, Ekshaoui (Horn). The town is made of white and blue walls, and you will walk over indigo-colored buildings, small squares, flowering fountains, ornate doors, and houses with red-tiled roofs that make up the town one of the most tourist destinations in the world. Overnight in one of the town’s beautiful riads. 

 

Day 4: Chefchaouen to Fez

After breakfast in the morning, you head to Fez, the oldest city in Morocco and the first imperial capital. Along the way, you will have several stops in the most beautiful places that offer a panoramic natural view to the visitor such as the Rif Mountains and the beautiful towns that are close to Chefchaoune known for their simple lifestyle. Later, you will arrive in Fes and go for a stroll in the afternoon, to have spiritual contact with the city’s long history and cultural heritage.

 

Day 5: Discovery tour of Fez

On the fifth day of your tour from Tangier and after breakfast, a private guided tour to discover Fez, one of the imperial cities in Morocco. Your local guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the most attractions and must-see sights of this ancient city. Visit the golden gates of the Royal Palace, stroll through the Fes E’lbali (Old medina), and see Medrasat El Bou Ananias, Nejarine Fountain, one of the most essential Islamic cultural centers and home to Fez University (the oldest university in the world), Moulay Idriss’s Mausoleum is to be discovered. Of course, we cannot forget the Mellah, a Jewish quarter of Fez, the tannery quarter, and the crafts guilds. 

Visiting Fes is incomplete without visiting the main attraction Qaraouin Mosque. It’s one of the oldest and most famous mosques in the Muslim world and was the first university in Morocco to be attended by famous scholars such as Ibn Khaldun, Ibn al-Khatib, and Averroes. It is still considered one of the most important spiritual and intellectual centers of Islam and is named after the neighborhood in which it was built, the Kairouan refugee quarter. Built-in several stages, the Karawin Mosque was first founded in 859 by Fatima el Bint Mohamed ben Abdella el Fihri, a pious woman from Kairouan.

Day 6: Fez – Midelt – Merzouga

You start your tour with the Morocco4X4 team and depart Fez for the Merzouga desert via Ifrane and the cedar forests of Azrou, home to wild monkeys. This will be an excellent opportunity to take pictures for souvenirs. Lunch in Zaida, a small Berber village. Continue your tour from Tangier through the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the Midelt landscape, until you reach the capital city of the region Errachidia. From there, you will take the road to the Merzouga desert. You will be met by a professional camel guide, who will lead us to the heart of the desert on the camel’s back for attending the breathtaking sunset and spending the night in a camp enjoying the Berber Gnawa music under the starry sky.  

 

Day 7: Merzouga – Rissani – Ouarzazate

After watching the panoramic sunrise on camels in Merzouga, we shower and have breakfast before setting off on our journey to visit the nomadic villages in the region of the desert before leaving for the village of Rissani. Where we will visit the big traditional Souk, it’s a great opportunity for those who want to buy a souvenir from Morocco. The Village is the origin of the Alaouet dynasty and the instant royal Family. We will drive via the Daraa Valley crossing over the well-known road of thousand Kasbahs. Later, we will arrive in Ouarzazate known as the African Studio. You will discover this gate of the Sahara and spend the night at one of its hotels.

Day 8: Ouarzazate – Marrakech

After the usual breakfast around 8 am, you will visit the Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, famous for being the location for Hollywood films such as Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia. Ait Benhaddou also is a UNESCO world heritage site. Later, you will cross the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, the highest pass in Morocco, and maybe in the whole of Africa to reach the red city of Marrakech.
