Day 1: Errachidia – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga (long of 140 km)
We will leave Errachidia (Ksar Souk) at 9 am and travel through the blue spring of Meski and the stunning panoramic view of the Ziz valley, where we can take in the valley’s expansive palm grove and pre-Saharan hours before arriving at the dunes of Erg Chebbi. It is necessary to visit the Moulay Ali Cherif mausoleum, the Ksar Abdel Halim at Rissani, and the marble and fossil workshop at Erfoud. We are going to have Arab Pizza for lunch on the way. Reach the base of the golden dunes, where you can spend the night in an Auberge Kasbah or a private camp with camel rides and nomadic tents.
Day 2: Merzouga – Khamlia – Taous – Ouzina
(A track spanning 105 km) When we get back from camp in the morning, we will have breakfast and take a shower. We will take an excursion to explore the Erg Chebbi region before continuing southward towards the Ouzina desert. We travel through oases and tiny towns, transient lakes, the black desert, hamadas, families living on the road, rivers, and the occasional Paris-Dakar trail. Lunch will be served with Berber pizza at Khamlia, the Gnawa of Sudan. After visiting the rock carvings at Taous in the afternoon, we travel to the deserted village of Ouzina, which provides a striking contrast between the dunes and the mountains. The evening will be in the Kasbah Hotel.
Day 3: Ouzina – Zagora – M’hamid – Erg Chegaga (170 km track + 145 km road)
Early departure will be toward Erg Chegaga via the settlements of Tafraout (Lake Maider), Ramlia, Tizi N’Tafilalt, and Zagora, traversing the same acacia-covered desert plateaus. We will arrive in the well-known Draa Valley, which is renowned for its historic “Timbuktu in 52 days” caravan departures, followed by lunch. In the afternoon, explore Tamegroute’s medieval library and local ceramics. Proceed to M’hamid, which is situated on the Algerian border, to begin traversing this more untamed and parched desert to arrive at the dunes of Erg Chegaga. Spend the night in the dunes in a sub-Saharan bivouac. Enjoy the opportunity to see a breathtaking sunset from here!
Day 4: Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Ouarzazate 120 km of track make up the total 300 km
Get up early to witness the sun rising over the dunes. To meet the desert nomads, we left for Foum Zguid after breakfast. We will traverse Lake Iriqui and a plateau of desert that is home to acacia trees. We will travel through Taznakht, which is well-known for its carpet cooperatives. A group of women who use their artistic talents to preserve their cultural heritage weaves these carpets.
On-site lunch is provided.
Proceeding to Ouarzazate, also known as “the beauty of the desert,” is the next step.
After dinner, spend the night at the hotel.
Day 5: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Kelaa M’Gouna – Valley of the Roses – Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges 270 km, with 14 km of track included
The desert, the mountains, and the valleys of Draa and Dades are all accessible through Ouarzazate. After that, we will head to Skoura, a massive palm grove that, when you turn a corner in a garden, unveils magnificent adobe Kasbahs, the majority of which are still inhabited. Among them is the Amridil Kasbah from the 17th century, which you can tour. After traveling 14 kilometers, we will reach El Kelaa M’Gouna, also known as the capital of roses. From there, we will follow the Dades Valley to the Ait Youl Kasbah, where you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the Dades gorges.
On-site lunch is provided.
The Dades River will then be followed as it meanders along the base of the gorges, forming little green oases. After that, we will descend again. We proceed in the direction of Boumalne and travel through Tinghir to arrive at the Todra Gorges, which are a natural wonder of southern Morocco that we cordially invite you to explore on foot.
